Model Cars and Diecast Models

Model cars are miniature vehicles made as toys, promotional items or collectibles. Many older examples are metal diecast models. Corgi Toys, Dinky Toys, Matchbox and Tekno are familiar makers.

Identification

Inspect the base for maker, model number, vehicle, country and scale. Record length, colour, wheels, tyres, glazing, interior, decals and moving features. Small differences may distinguish early issues from later variants.

Original or reissue?

Period originals should be distinguished from licensed reissues and reproductions. Editions Atlas and others produced later models based on classic Dinky issues. Reproduction boxes and replacement parts should be disclosed.

Condition and packaging

Look for paint loss, corrosion, bent axles, missing tyres and damaged plastic. Test functions gently. Original packaging may matter; its model number and illustration should correspond with the vehicle. Demand depends on maker, variant, completeness, originality and condition.
