Møller jewellery business, Trondheim

Møllers Gullsmedforretning, also known as Gullsmed Møller, is a family jewellery business in Trondheim. Its history traces its roots to Engelbreth Møller, who opened his own shop in Prinsens gate in February 1770. His son Knud Sørensen Møller took over the shop and workshop in 1804. This describes a craft and business lineage, rather than the incorporation date of today's legal company.

The business combines a shop with workshop services, its own products and outside brands. The family history includes several goldsmiths and different workshop branches. The celebrated goldsmith Henrik Bertram Møller belongs within that history, but the individual and the family business are separate subjects. The surname Møller alone does not identify one particular craftsman.

For an older jewel or silver object, examine the complete sequence of marks alongside provenance and any receipt. Distinguish family member, executing workshop, designer and retailer. A retailer's box does not alone establish in-house manufacture, and decoration associated with one family member needs additional evidence before a firm attribution can be made.
