Moritz Grossmann

Moritz Grossmann refers both to a historic German watchmaker and to a modern watch brand in Glashütte. Carl Moritz Grossmann established his workshop there in 1854 and initiated the German watchmaking school founded in 1878. The modern business has a separate chronology: Christine Hutter established a new manufacture, Grossmann Uhren GmbH was incorporated in 2008, and its first new model, BENU, appeared in 2010.

The brand makes mechanical watches with carefully finished movements. One specific construction is calibre 107.0, which brings elements normally seen at the back of the movement to the dial side. This feature belongs to that calibre and must not be applied to every Grossmann watch.

When assessing a pre-owned example, compare its model, calibre, case and documentation. A modern wristwatch with a historically inspired dial is not a nineteenth-century watch. The shared name alone proves neither age nor uninterrupted production.
