Nivrel
Nivrel is a watch brand with both Swiss and German history. Its own account states that Marvin introduced the Nivrel name in 1936. Gerd Hofer GmbH acquired the brand in 1993 and moved production to Saarbrücken. These are separate milestones when dating an older watch.
Movements and production
Nivrel's production description discusses assembly and component finishing with specialist suppliers. It covers quartz and mechanical watches, and Swiss movements in its mechanical production. A name on the dial therefore does not establish that the brand manufactured every component itself. Present production information should not automatically be applied to the period before the acquisition.
What should collectors check?
Record the model, reference and movement designation, and photograph the dial and case back. Compare these with documentation from the correct period. Calendars, chronographs and other functions must be associated with the particular variant rather than the entire brand. Preserve service records and note subsequent replacements separately. A movement or case back fitting physically is not, on its own, evidence that the components originally belonged together.
