Orient
Orient is a Japanese watch brand. Its official history traces the business to Tama Keiki, which began watch production in 1950. The company name changed to Orient Watch in 1951, when the Orient Star brand was introduced. Production startup and the name change are therefore separate events.
Orient and Orient Star
Orient and Orient Star are related brand names, but they should not be interchanged when describing an individual watch. Read what is actually on the dial and case back, and check it against the model reference. A brand name should not be confused with a calibre number either.
Identify before setting
The brand is particularly associated with mechanical wristwatches. Nevertheless, establish the movement type and functions of each example. Find the correct instructions before attempting quick date correction or other functions. Do not assume different Orient models operate identically.
What should a buyer be told?
Describe dial, hands, case, crystal and bracelet separately. Record whether service and replacement parts are documented. Give the duration of a simple running test rather than just saying “works”. Old water-resistance markings on a case do not establish its present water resistance. A model's history and the condition of the object for sale are different pieces of information.
