Paul Hoff

Paul Hoff is a Swedish designer and artist who has worked in both glass and ceramics. Stockholms läns museum records ceramic training at Konstfack and work for Gustavsberg and Kosta Boda, among others. His name is therefore not confined to one material or manufacturer.

Stockholm's Nationalmuseum provides a clear example of separate roles: bowl NMK 4/1974 is dated as manufactured in 1972, with Hoff as designer, Bengt Heintze as maker and Kosta glassworks as manufacturer. The inventory number's year is not the stated production year.

Keep these roles separate when assessing an object. A Hoff design does not necessarily mean he personally blew the glass. Compare model, dimensions, material and decoration with documented works, preserving label and signature information. Neither animal motifs nor a particular shape alone establish his authorship.
