Philipp Spillmann
Philipp Spillmann is a Swiss-born jewellery artist working in Oslo. He trained as a goldsmith in Switzerland and moved to Norway in 2001. Jewellery is a principal field, alongside sculpture and public commissions.
Reworking found materials is an important aspect of his practice. His Norwegian Association for Arts and Crafts profile describes Semi-fine XIII & XIV as incorporating an enamelled steel coffee pot, teak furniture and zinc-plated steel. Other works may use different materials. Reuse is part of the design process and cannot by itself identify a piece.
When assessing a possible work, compare its title, construction, material combination and provenance with documented examples. Enamel already present on a found component was not necessarily applied by the artist. Preserve original surfaces and fastening arrangements before considering restoration.
