Pukeberg glassworks

Pukeberg is a Swedish glassworks with roots in 1871. Designarkivet at Kalmar Art Museum links its beginnings to Conrad Nyström. Lighting glass was important alongside household and decorative glass. Böhlmarks lamp factory became a major customer and later owner.

Distinguish these roles when identifying objects: glass made at Pukeberg could form part of a lamp supplied by another business. Glassworks, lighting manufacturer and retailer need not be the same firm. A name on a lamp therefore cannot by itself identify who made all its components.

For older objects, investigate model and date in period catalogues or collection records. Photograph marks and labels, but also record form, dimensions, decoration and construction. For lighting glass, the rim, opening and attachment are particularly relevant. State whether glass and fitting are documented as belonging together or merely fit one another. Similar shape or colour alone is insufficient grounds to name a designer.
