Randsfjord Glassworks
Randsfjord Glassworks is documented as a Norwegian manufacturer of pieces including designs by Benny Motzfeldt. In these records the glassworks is the manufacturer, while Motzfeldt is the designer. The roles should not be confused.
Documented comparison objects
Norway's National Museum holds a vase dated 1970, inventory number OK-1970-0043, recorded as blown glass with a metallic shimmer. Nationalmuseum in Stockholm holds a bowl dated 1968, NMK 103/1968, naming Benny Motzfeldt as designer and Randsfjord Glassworks as the place of manufacture. The bowl is described as bubbly glass with blue-grey flecks.
Bubbles are not a signature
These museum objects provide specific comparison points, but they do not turn every bubbled glass object or coloured bowl into Randsfjord or Motzfeldt. Compare overall form, proportions, base finishing, decoration and any signatures. A signature must be read and documented, not guessed from an artist's familiar style.
Recording and condition
List manufacturer and designer separately and retain qualifications where attribution is uncertain. Photograph the whole object, base and rim. Describe damage, ground-down chips and later alterations separately. A dated museum vase dates only the recorded object; a similar item for sale needs its own evidence. Describe unsigned glass cautiously rather than assigning an artist without documentation.
