Ressence

Ressence is a Belgian watch brand founded in 2010 by industrial designer Benoît Mintiens. It is known for ROCS, the Ressence Orbital Convex System, in which curved discs and smaller displays move in relation to one another. Its digital-looking appearance should not be confused with an ordinary electronic screen: ROCS is a mechanical display module.

Technology varies between models. Type 3 has an oil-filled upper chamber, and the manufacturer describes ROCS 3 as driven by a customised automatic 2824/2 base calibre. Neither oil filling nor a particular base movement should therefore be attributed indiscriminately to the entire brand.

For a second-hand watch, the exact Type, edition and service history matter more than a superficial resemblance of the dial. Check operation against the correct manual. Establish the model's mechanism and maintenance requirements before intervention or comparison with simpler mechanical wristwatches.
