Ruhla

Ruhla is both a town in Thuringia and a name associated with German watchmaking. The Thuringian State Archive describes Georg and Christian Thiel establishing a metal goods factory there in 1862. Watch production followed later. That year alone therefore dates neither an individual Ruhla watch nor the launch of a particular watch brand.

During the East German period, the factory formed part of a state-organised watch industry. Historical production must be distinguished from later activity: POINTtec states that the watch assembly operation and museum in Ruhla became part of its company in 2019. This does not make POINTtec the producer of every older Ruhla watch.

When buying, record the dial, case back, movement designation and any original documentation together. A specification found only for a recent model, such as water resistance or movement type, must not be transferred to an older watch. Separate documented manufacturing history from a seller's unsupported claim about age.
