Silje Syse (Syse Glas)

Silje Syse is the glassblower behind Syse Glas in Ulvik, Hardanger. She began an apprenticeship with Stine Hoff in Bergen in 2006 and opened the Ulvik studio in autumn 2015. Her training and the later studio opening are therefore separate stages in its history.

The range includes drinking glasses, vases, bowls and jugs. Her Norwegian Glass Artists profile describes a practice combining design and production, drawing on Hardanger's landscape and culture. Her own description of Hardanger vinglas identifies an engraved pattern inspired by Hardanger embroidery. This is decoration in glass, rather than evidence that every product shares the same motif or technique.

Model, shape, decoration and documented purchase history help identification. Distinguish her mentor Stine Hoff's work from Syse's own production. A Hardanger motif alone does not establish the maker; compare specific documented models.
