Siri Borge

Siri Borge is a Norwegian contemporary artist from Stavanger, educated at the Bergen Academy of Art. Her practice uses several media, including glass, sculpture, video and performance. She should therefore not be described solely as a glassblower or confused with a traditional glassworks.

Glass and coastal imagery

The 2023 exhibition Tanngard at Bryne Kunstforening connected artworks with coastal life and social issues. Her glass portfolio documents, among other methods, Tiffany technique: coloured sheet glass is hand-cut and soldered together with copper and lead. The essay Between the Sticky and Sublime discusses Resting Cod Face, a glass work depicting a cod's head. Glass here forms part of a figurative, socially engaged expression.

Identifying a work

Material combinations, joints, subject and title offer useful points for description. The information must be tied to the documented work. It does not justify attributing every fish motif or soldered glass object to Borge. Check provenance, any marking and agreement with the artist's or exhibition venue's documentation. Also distinguish a standalone glass work, a component of an installation and a work combining glass with other materials.
