Skagen

Skagen is a watch and accessories brand with a distinctly Danish design identity. The brand dates its beginnings to 1989 and describes influences from Scandinavian simplicity, Danish architecture and coastal culture. Fossil's own documentation identifies Henrik and Charlotte Jorst as co-founders.

Fossil announced an agreement to acquire Skagen in January 2012. The acquisition was completed effective 2 April that year. This ownership timeline must be distinguished from the production date of an individual watch. A Danish design identity alone does not document manufacture in Denmark.

When assessing a used Skagen watch, compare the case-back reference with the correct model description. Record the movement, dimensions, crystal, bracelet or strap and operation of any functions. Check how the bracelet joins the case if replacement parts are needed. The dial name alone cannot establish production year, water resistance or compatibility between different models. Original instructions and purchase documents can provide more useful evidence than a general brand description.
