Stowa
Stowa is a German watch brand founded by Walter Storz in Hornberg in 1927. Its name combines parts of his surname and given name. The firm moved to Pforzheim in 1935 and is associated with pilot's watches and restrained, legible wristwatches.
Bauhaus styling and Antea
The firm's history places simple dial designs, continued in the Antea range, in the late 1930s. Its historical-watch material explains that dials commonly called Bauhaus-inspired appeared after the Bauhaus school had closed. The style label therefore does not establish that the school or a particular Bauhaus designer designed a watch.
Buying an older example
Distinguish the original production period from subsequent reissues. Compare lettering, hands, case and movement against documentation for the correct model, not merely a current product photograph. A refinished dial, replacement crown or later hands should be disclosed. The age of the Stowa name does not automatically date an individual watch.
