Ulla-Mari Brantenberg
Ulla-Mari Brantenberg is a Norwegian glass artist with an important role in studio glass. Norske Kunsthåndverkere documents her initiative for the Frysja glass studio in Oslo in 1978 and a glass studio at Glasslåven in 2016. Her work includes functional objects, sculpture and larger commissions.
Forms and surfaces
In a 2005 exhibition text, Drammens Museum highlights organic forms and the interplay of glossy and matt etched surfaces in her work. Her professional profile also documents a wider technical practice including blowing, grinding, engraving and casting. These characteristics provide context rather than a rule that all works share the same shape or method.
Documented works and attribution
The National Museum of Norway records Vase, dated 2005, inventory number NMK.2005.0357, as blown glass produced at Frysja Kunstnersenter. This is evidence for that work. Another object requires its own assessment of any signature, dimensions, provenance and comparable catalogue entries. A resemblance to natural forms alone cannot establish authorship. Also distinguish the artist from the studio where a particular piece was made.
