Vulcain
Vulcain is a Swiss watch brand with roots in Manufacture Ditisheim, established in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1858. The manufacturer's history records the change from Ditisheim & Cie to Fabrique Vulcain in 1898. The Cricket, presented in 1947, made the brand known for mechanical alarm wristwatches.
Alarm and model names
An alarm alerts the wearer at a set time. It should be distinguished from a chronograph's elapsed-time function. The Vulcain name alone does not mean that a watch is a Cricket or has an alarm. Identify the model and calibre before describing its functions and operation.
Older examples
On a used Cricket, examine and document both ordinary timekeeping and alarm operation. Seek the correct instructions rather than experimenting with unfamiliar crown and pusher positions. Also record the dial, hands, case and service information. A reissue can reflect historical inspiration without sharing the original movement or technical data; compare specific references.
