Cherry stoner

A cherry stoner is a kitchen tool for removing stones from cherries. Historical versions include mechanical devices with a hand crank and table fixing. Distinguish their construction from fruit peelers and grinders, which may look similar when parts are missing.

Historic New England records an Enterprise Manufacturing Co. model with a funnel-shaped opening, hand crank, wheel mechanism and clamp. That example is tinned cast iron. The Science Museum Group also holds a Pippit stoner dated around 1936. These are different models, not specifications shared by every cherry stoner.

Document markings, fixing, opening and moving parts. The Enterprise example carries a 1917 patent reference. Treat this as a patent date rather than a secure production year for an unidentified device. Check whether the mechanism is complete. Previous food use does not automatically make an old tool suitable for renewed food preparation.
