Meat hook
A meat hook is a hook for suspending meat. The term describes a function rather than one fixed shape or period. Older examples may belong to slaughtering, storage or cooking contexts, but each object's use requires evidence.
Different constructions
The Museum of English Rural Life records an English nineteenth-century example for suspending meat before a fire for roasting. It has articulated joints and a double suspension hook. These are features of that particular museum object, not every meat hook.
Identification
Photograph points, suspension, joints and marks. Record dimensions, material, repairs and documented place of use. A detached pointed hook is not automatically a slaughtering tool. Rust or hand-forged appearance alone cannot establish age or maker. Separate documented use from assumptions about Norwegian or foreign origin.
