A. Holthe (Astri Holthe, AHA)

A. Holthe and the AHA mark

A. Holthe was a jewellery business in Arendal, Norway, associated with Astri Holthe. Arendal Chamber of Commerce’s 2014 profile of Gulldia Design identifies Astri as a founder and documents a family connection to later jewellery development in the town. Company history does not establish the designer of every individual piece.

Marks and identification

A. Holthe is listed under Arendal in the illustrated Norwegian hallmark directory at 925-1000.dk. The “aha” mark is documented on the company’s silver jewellery. Read the whole group: “925” or “925S” indicates silver fineness, while “aha” is the responsibility mark. Do not assign it to a different goldsmith solely because of similar initials.

A pearl necklace example

On a necklace examined at OBA the mark appears on the round silver clasp. It documents the clasp’s connection with A. Holthe. It does not alone establish natural pearls, original stringing or that all components were made together. See pearls in jewellery.

Practical examination

Photograph the clasp and marks closely. Record length, stringing, wear and damage to pearl surfaces. A precise designer or model attribution requires separate documentation. The “aha” mark alone does not give an exact production year.
