Traser

Traser is a Swiss watch brand associated with mb-microtec and its self-powered trigalight illumination. The company's history begins in 1969, whereas the first Traser watch, the P6500 Type 6, appeared in 1989. These dates refer to different events and should not be treated as interchangeable.

Recognising the illumination

Trigalight uses tiny glass capillaries containing tritium gas and an internal luminescent coating. The light sources require neither daylight charging nor an external power supply to glow. This describes the illumination, not the source of power for the movement. Self-powered markers therefore do not establish that the watch has a battery-free movement.

Identifying a pre-owned example

Examine the model reference, dial, case back and movement together. The P6500 Type 6's development for American military requirements does not by itself prove that an individual watch was issued to military personnel. Water resistance, dimensions and other specifications require model-specific evidence. Actual brightness and service history also deserve separate assessment on an older example.
