Gullsmia in Ålgård
Gullsmia is a goldsmith's workshop with a shop at Alti Ålgård in Gjesdal, Norway. Its own introduction describes handmade production, and its contact details use the company name Gullsmia AS. The location matters for identification: similarly named workshops elsewhere require separate investigation.
Workshop production and remodelling
Gullsmia describes custom design, repairs and jewellery production in its own workshop. Its Omatt service involves melting down older gold and silver objects. Redesign also includes reshaping silver cutlery into jewellery, such as turning a spoon into a ring or a fork into a pendant.
The workshop's redesign page shows examples using the Juvel, Telesølv and Blåklokke cutlery patterns. This does not mean that Gullsmia manufactured the original cutlery. Distinguish the original maker from the workshop responsible for a later alteration.
Documentation when buying second-hand
Ask what has been retained, replaced, bent or melted down. An older impressed mark needs to be interpreted alongside the alterations. This article does not assign a responsibility mark to Gullsmia. Receipts, photographs taken before alteration and a workshop description can form part of the ownership history. Record repairs and visible changes in a condition report, without dating the entire piece from a single older component.
Next step: To offer older jewellery or silver to OBA, see buying and selling information. Mention any known remodelling and provide photographs and documentation.
